Township of Tiny partners with Granicus/Host Compliance for the STR Licensing Program

Short Term Rentals Licensing Program

The Township of Tiny is pleased to partner with Granicus/Host Compliance, an internationally recognized company that specializes in identifying and monitoring Short-Term Rentals to assist the Township in identifying such properties.

Please be advised that the Township Council passed By-law #22-017, to establish regulations and registration requirements for Short-Term Rentals.

Applications will be accepted starting October 4, 2022, and closing on November 15, 2022.

A “Short-term Rental Accommodation” means the secondary use of a residential Dwelling Unit that offers a place of accommodation or temporary residence, or occupancy by way of concession, permit, lease, licence, rental agreement, or similar arrangement for fewer than twenty-eight (28) consecutive calendar days with no on-site management throughout all or part of the year. Short-Term Rental Accommodation uses shall not mean a motel, hotel, bed and breakfast establishment, tourist establishment, tourist cabin establishment, or similar commercial accommodation use. For the purposes of this definition, a secondary use shall mean secondary in terms of time the Dwelling Unit is used as a Short-Term Rental Accommodation.

The Short-Term Rental webpage has been updated with additional details on the Licensing Process and Resources. Interested individuals are encouraged to fully review By-law 22-017 and review the instructions outlined in the Apply for a New Licence section. Within that section, details are provided on Preparing for your Application and actions that need to be taken in advance of applying for a Licence.

Additionally, Granicus/Host Compliance has mailed letters, on behalf of the Township, to properties that have been identified as operating a Short-Term Rental within the Township of Tiny . Existing Short-Term operators are encouraged to review the website and begin the application process once the application becomes available on October 4, 2022.

If a Short-Term Rental operator has not filed an online Application by 11:59 p.m. on November 15, 2022, the operator will be in contravention of the By-law and must cease operations immediately. No new applications will be accepted by the Township after 11:59 p.m. on November 15, 2022. With respect to the posting of advertisements, all ads must be removed from all advertising sites immediately.

It is the intention of the Township to strictly enforce the Short-Term Rental Accommodation Licensing By-law. Failure to comply could result in court-assessed fines of up to $100,000.00 per violation.
