Fresh affordable produce market comes to Penetanguishene’s Georgian Village

A new market is providing the seniors living in Georgian Village with improved access to fresh affordable produce.

On Feb. 26, a market popped up in the main entrance at Georgian Village, a retirement community in Penetanguishene with approximately 350 residents.

“This is great,” said Georgian Village resident John DesRochers. “I was going to make a trip into town today to pick up some of this stuff. This (market) saves me from making that trip.”

DesRochers was pleased with the selection of quality produce available at the market. He came away with carrots, green onions, cooking onions and strawberries — all for an affordable price.

“The prices are really good. The produce is A1. I’m very impressed,” said DesRochers.

The County of Simcoe, which operates Georgian Village, partnered with the Karma Project to bring the market to the residents. The plan is to offer the market on the last Wednesday of every month. []
