Short Term Rentals Licensing Program

This content has been archived. It may no longer be relevant.

The Township of Tiny began accepting applications for the Short-Term Rental Licensing Program on October 4, 2022 and is accepting applications until the closing date on November 15, 2022.

The Township of Tiny has partnered with Granicus/Host Compliance, an internationally recognized company that specializes in identifying and monitoring Short-Term Rentals to assist the Township in identifying such properties.

A “Short-term Rental Accommodation” means the secondary use of a residential Dwelling Unit that offers a place of accommodation or temporary residence, or occupancy by way of concession, permit, lease, licence, rental agreement, or similar arrangement for fewer than twenty-eight (28) consecutive calendar days with no on-site management throughout all or part of the year. Short-Term Rental Accommodation uses shall not mean a motel, hotel, bed and breakfast establishment, tourist establishment, tourist cabin establishment, or similar commercial accommodation use. For the purposes of this definition, a secondary use shall mean secondary in terms of time the Dwelling Unit is used as a Short-Term Rental Accommodation.

Interested individuals are encouraged to fully review By-law 22-017 and the instructions outlined in the Apply for a New Licence section. Applicants are encouraged to complete the application process early to avoid any unforeseen technical difficulties.

If a Short-Term Rental operator has not filed an online Application by 11:59 p.m. on November 15, 2022, the operator will be in contravention of the By-law and must cease operations immediately. No new applications will be accepted by the Township after 11:59 p.m. on November 15, 2022. With respect to the posting of advertisements, all ads must be removed from all advertising sites immediately. It is the intention of the Township to strictly enforce the Short-Term Rental Accommodation Licensing By-law. Failure to comply could result in court-assessed fines of up to $100,000.00 per violation.

Members of the public may visit the Township’s website www.tiny.ca/str for information and for the Short-Term Rental application. Questions regarding this program should be directed to the Licensing Officer by email at licensing@tiny.ca or by calling 705-525-4204 ext. 291.
