Staff at Sainte-Marie Among the Hurons aren’t letting the COVID-19 pandemic completely ruin the holiday season.

A ‘scaled-down version’ of First Light will be held in late November.

The historical site on the outskirts of Midland, once home to the Huron Wendat people, will be lit up with candles on Nov, 21, 22 and Nov. 27, 28 for First Light ‘Unplugged.’

“This will be a timed ticket event. Visitors must pre-purchase their tickets, which will be offered online, with controlled numbers,” said Emily Brown, manager of marketing and visitor services with Huronia Historical Parks.

“It will be a significantly scaled-down version of the traditional event, offering guests a quiet, candle-lit self-guided tour of the site.”

The site will be decked out with the usual festive decorations and staff hope to have a small vendor fair. Restaurant Sainte-Marie will be open all four nights for guests to enjoy a meal.

In accordance with local health unit policies, only twenty people will be allowed in the site at one time. Tickets will be sold in half hour increments.
