Penetanguishene’s new community improvement plan could spur the creation of more affordable housing in the downtown core.

A draft version of the plan, which was presented to council on February 12, includes the framework for seven financial incentive programs. One of those programs offers grants and loans for the creation of affordable housing units.

“We know housing is a crisis and we know affordable apartments are really in need,” said Andrea Betty, director of planning and community development for the town. “If there is a way we can help stimulate building owners to add, construct or update units then we will do it.”
