Midland, Penetanguishene, Tiny and Tay have jointly received $100,000 in government funding to undertake a review of their municipal services.

“We are looking at exploring opportunities to make it easier for residents and businesses to access services in a consistent manner, while ensuring we are efficient and cost effective,” said Jeff Lees, chief administrative officer for the Town of Penetanguishene.

The grant is part of the municipal modernization program, a $125-million investment being made by the Ontario government to help small and rural municipalities lower costs and improve services.

This program was the main outcome of a lengthy municipal governance review undertaken by the province in 2019. Many local politicians feared the review would result in amalgamation, but the government decided to provide municipalities with resources to support local decision-making instead. []
